New Years Resolution

It’s that time of year to start making changes. I am not usually big on resolutions. However as I sit back and look at the changes since last year at this time, I think I might make one this year. In this past year I have gotten married, and lost some of my older loved ones. One of the things that I am reminded up through the holiday season is how letter writing is going away and along with it an important part of communication. We spent Christmas day with my husbands in laws. His aunt pulled out some old family photo albums. In them she had letters that were written between different family members back in the 1930’s and 40’s. It was such a moving thing to touch pieces of history. In addition to this experience, it seems like every year fewer and fewer Christmas cards are mailed and the ones that are sent are generic pictures of the family with nothing personal. Not that these are wrong, but these aren’t letters that people remember and save.

So my resolution is to write more letters this year. Any type will work, thinking of you, birthday, thank you… I would like to try to write and mail one letter per week. To start the year off and motivate me to actually do it, I am making a list of who I want to send something to first and am making cards to keep in my purse to fill out when I get stuck somewhere.

What is your New Years Resolution?
